First, the good news for marketers about Google+ Brand Pages:
It’s incredibly easy to set up a brand page there. Now, the bad news: It’s incredibly easy to set up a brand page there.

From Mashable Article Nov 9, 2011, Google+ Brand Pages Are the “Wild West”– for Now

At long last, Google quietly announced on Mon Nov 7, 2011 that Google+ Brand (Business) Pages are available on Google+.

One possible security risk: at present it is very easy to create ‘spam’ Brand Pages with Google+. Undoubtedly, Google will tighten its security and verification process for Google+ Brand Pages in the future.

My Pandamonium’s Recommendation for Google+ Brand Pages: Create your Brand Page now – before someone else does. Contact My Pandamonium now to start your Google+ Brand Page; or to create or expand Social Media Marketing for your business.

Video below features interview with Google Executive Brad Horowitz, vice president and product manager of Google Inc.’s Google+, who talks about the new Pages feature and the company’s strategy for the social network.

Creating Dynamic Internet Presence

dy·nam·ic adjective /dīˈnamik/

(of a process or system) Characterized by constant change, activity, or progress
- a dynamic economy

(of a person) Positive in attitude and full of energy and new ideas
- she’s dynamic and determined

(of a thing) Stimulating development or progress
- the dynamic forces of nature

Of or relating to forces producing motion

(of a verb) Expressing an action, activity, event, or process

(of a memory device) Needing to be refreshed by the periodic application of a voltage

Internet (Digital) Marketing is Constantly Re-Creating Itself

Marketing on the internet in 2011 is a dynamic process: Interactive, Growth Stimulating, Producing Motion and Needing Regular Fresh Input. Many businesses still think of their website and internet presence in the terms of a 1970 telephone: plug it in, forget it and it works like a charm for the next 20 years.

In terms of internet (digital) marketing, the old idea of ‘plug it in and forget it’ is totally wrong!

I am not a big fan of the over-used phrase Paradigm Shift – but this is one case in which I can make an exception. The demands of digital marketing in 2011 is a total Paradigm Shift from even 10 years ago.

Is SEO Dead or Merely on Life Support?

As organizer for the Meetup group Fort Worth Web Design Enthusiasts, I created this title for our last Meetup. As expected, the title generated some lively discussion. Resolved: SEO is not Dead. But IMO, SEO is changing and continues to evolve.

So What’s the Secret Formula?

It is not that big a secret – although many businesses still have not noticed!

SEO + Social Media + Blogging (Content Marketing)

The Essential Big 3 for All Business (especially small business) are: SEO + Social Media + Blogging (Content Marketing). The Big 3 work together as a dynamic unit to promote and expand Internet Presence and Customer Base.

So whether your business is large, small or a corporate giant – forget the ‘plug and play’ concept! Also, it is not enough to simply believe ‘If We Build a Website – Customers Will Somehow Just Find It!’.

All business needs a Dynamic Internet Presence: Interactive with Customers, Business Growth Stimulating, Producing Customer Motion to Find Out More/Buy and Providing Fresh Useful Input (blog posts, Facebook updates, tweets, special offers, etc) on a Regular Basis.

Fort Worth Wordpress & Training|SEO|Social Media Marketing - My Pandamonium Marketing-SEO - Creating LARGE Internet Presence for Business in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area and Virtually Anywhere

Website Design Critical Elements

1. COLOR. Studies have shown that certain colors are more likely to produce Trust and Buyer Confidence.
2. CONTENT. Once viewers stick round long enough to begin reading content – it had better be concise and to the point.
3. PHOTOS and GRAPHICS. Same as for Color. Dark, old-fashioned and not related to your product photos/graphics will not hold info surfers to your site.
4. AUTHORITY. Rightly or wrongly, website viewers equate a clean, modern and bright website with “They Know What They’re Doing”.
5. NAVIGATION. If users cannot find what they want on your site within 10-20 seconds – they are gone and they don’t come back.

Website Makeover Tips

1. KNOW What you Really Want in a Makeover (may require consultation)
2. TRUST Your Designer
3. Be Willing To Accept Advice
4. Most Important: Be Willing To Make Changes

Website Makeovers are exciting! And Scary. Whether it’s a personal makeover, house/home update, wardrobe rescue or website design – makeovers are a part of doing business in the 21st century.

Like it or not – we are a visual culture. Daily everyone is bombarded with 1000’s of images. And although most are not design experts in any field – we know what we see. And, we know what we like.

Even more interesting: As a result of the constant media image bombardment, on some level we all ‘know’ what looks new, bright and modern. And what looks old, dark and old-fashioned.

What Drives a Website Makeover Decision

• SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
• Want To Be Found Easier/More Often in Searches
• Need to Convert Searches to Sales

All Business is now Search Engine oriented. Studies done in 2010 show that 87% of US adults use Search Engines to find information. In mid-2011, the numbers of adults using Search to find info – and YOUR business – is probably even higher.

A website makeover will include SEO (Search Engine Optimization). If the vast majority of consumers are using Search Engines to find businesses – and your business does not have internet presence – you might as well close up shop.

Not being found in Searches is the 21st equivalent of a business not having a phone line or phonebook listing and ad in the 1980’s. If you need help with SEO, please Contact My Pandamonium Marketing-SEO asap.

So now you’ve got SEO. What’s next? The Design of the website itself.

‘I Want Change As Long As Nothing is Too Different!’

This is where Trusting Your Web Designer plays a large part. Before choosing a web designer for your makeover, ideally, there was a vetting process.

You got referrals, looked at the designers’ work and are satisfied the designer can deliver the Makeover Main Objectives: Be Found and Convert Searches to Sales.

And now, here’s the most difficult part of any makeover: You have to Listen to your web designer.

Almost inevitably, the design suggested will be radically different than the current under-performing website. If the current site and associated advertising were doing the job needed – would you really be looking at a makeover in the first place?

Gone in 5 Seconds: 2011 Critical Elements in a Website Build

You have 5 seconds for your website to make an Impression on potential clients/customers. If they don’t like what they see – they are gone and they don’t come back.

You do it yourself! When Searching – finding a website that has acceptable or even great info but has a dark and old-fashioned presentation – you surf on. Why? The business may have superior knowledge and use cutting edge technology, but their website is extremely dated.

End Result: User Loss of Confidence and potential customer surfs on. Which is a shame: they may end up doing business with a quack or crackpot that has a great website and minimal knowledge/training.

Are you Willing to Make Changes?

• Your current website colors are dark purple and black – and your web designer tactfully suggests that a lighter color palette will keep people on your website longer and encourage buying.
• Navigation does not ‘flow’ – users have difficulty finding what they need.
• Your current website photos appear to be unrelated to your main product.
• Website photos are not high resolution and are ‘dark’ (without proper lighting).
• Photos have not been professionally produced (or at least, created by a talented amateur photographer that knows about lighting, composition, etc).
• Text content on current website is without SEO or marketing value.

Major Objections to Change

• My Aunt Mary wrote the text content for the site. It took forever and she is really proud of her work.
• My cousin Larry designed our current website. It’s not great – but it’s a website!
• We spent a fortune to acquire our current website and I really like the colors/graphics.
• Do we have to re-do everything? I know that nothing is working marketing-wise or for SEO on the site, but I’m really used to it.
• We know that Aunt Mary knows nothing about SEO, marketing copywriting or internet presence – but we insist that she be allowed to write all the content for the new website.
• Go ahead and design the new site – but we insist that you use all the colors, graphics and photos from the old site.

Bottom Line

Change IS Scary. But if you want a dynamic, high-performing, SEO and Marketing powerhouse website – then you have to be willing to Trust Your Chosen Web Designer. And, you have to be willing to Make Changes.

If your current website is under-performing and not producing the results you want and need – what have you got to lose?

SEO Step One: Achieve a High Search Ranking
SEO Step Two: Maintain It!

Remember the old Western and Kung Fu movies? As soon as a gunfighter or kung fu master got to be #1 (not easy!) – was he allowed to rest on his laurels?

Of course not! As soon as word about the new Best Fighter got around – the Best Fighter had challengers lining up to knock him out of First Place.

It’s the same with SEO rankings: SEO is an Ongoing Process

Achieving outstanding and consistent high Search Engine ranking is an interactive and ongoing marketing process. For optimum results, SEO is not a ‘set it and forget it’ item.

Each month there are 1000’s of new websites coming online. Many of these will be in your field, your business type and your city. To continue to rank #1 or on the first page of Searches, ongoing SEO work is a necessity.

Search Ranking Slippage

Without ongoing SEO work, your business will inevitably begin to slip in Search rankings.

Of course, the majority of SEO work will be in the beginning. Optimizing the website structure from the inside out, submitting to Search engines and ‘white hat’ and appropriate link building activities. Some of these activities could be considered SEM – Search Engine Marketing.

[Note: Sharp and easily definable divisions between SEO, Social Media Marketing, SEM and Internet Marketing are beginning to blur. Some suggest that any activity contributing to higher Search Engine ranking, increased business find-ability and more leads/sales could be called Digital Marketing.]

SEO Maintenance

After a high Search Ranking is achieved, then there needs to be ongoing ‘maintenance SEO’. Why?

Remember those 1000’s of websites coming online each month? The internet is not a static medium. It is constantly changing and growing. And so are your competitors online. Your competitors and not standing still as a statue – and neither should you!

We’ve had many small business clients who chose the Jump Start SEO Package to help their sites rank higher. And it was a success for them, resulting in #1 or high first page Search ranking. Their leads and sales increased. Referrals multiplied.

But when approached regarding ongoing SEO Maintenance, their universal response was: “We’re good now, Thanks!”

Six months later, a Search shows those businesses are slipping in Search listing placement and are no longer #1. In a few more months, they may no longer even be on the first page of Search.

Need Higher Search Ranking?

Need help to achieve a higher Search Engine Ranking or to maintain it? Don’t wait any longer – Contact My Pandamonium Marketing-SEO today!

And your kung fu will be better than ‘their’ kung fu – where it counts in business: in the Search Engine listings.

→ My Pandamonium also provides SEO super-charged WordPress Websites. WordPress websites are a CMS: Content Management Software. The best way to create highly effective SEO is to build it into the website architecture from the beginning.

→ Once the WordPress website is designed and Search Engine Optimized – anyone can update and maintain it. My Pandamonium Professional WordPress Training with custom class design is available for individuals and business.

Just a day after Facebook was sent an open letter by security firm Sophos addressing privacy issues, new safety features have been introduced to protect teens from bullying and to protect the average user.

Read the entire Open Letter to Facebook at Sophos Naked Security blog.

The Security Recommendations from Sophos:

1) PRIVACY BY DEFAULT

No more sharing of information without your users’ express agreement (OPT-IN). Whenever you add a new feature to share additional information about your users, you should not assume that they want this feature turned on.

2) VETTED APP DEVELOPERS

It is far too easy to become a developer on Facebook. With over one million app developers already registered on the Facebook platform, it is hardly surprising that your service is riddled with rogue applications and viral scams. Only vetted and approved third-party developers should be allowed to publish apps on your platform.

3) HTTPS FOR EVERYTHING

We welcome you recently introducing an HTTPS option, but you left it turned off by default. Worse, you only commit to provide a secure connection “whenever possible”. Facebook should enforce a secure connection all the time, by default. Without this protection, your users are at risk of losing personal information to hackers.

Facebook New Security Features 4-19-11

Two Factor Facebook Authentication

Improved HTTPS While Logged into Facebook

Expanded Social Reporting Tool To Prevent Online Bullying

Family Safety Center Redesign

Opinions vary widely regarding the latest Location-Based Geosocial Media launch (8- 18-10)

One thing is certain: Facebook’s ongoing quest to compete in and totally dominate

Social Media Marketing is continuing with this this new offering.

So what is the Status of Personal Privacy for Social Media users?

Facebook Places is a geosocial networking location-based service poised to kick Foursquare to the curb in this latest round of Race for the Social Media Marketing Money. IMO, any issue here is not that geosocial location-based networking services exist; they serve a valid purpose.

The real Personal Privacy issue is: All Facebook users were automatically ‘Opted-in’ to full internet sharing on Facebook Places – without really knowing or understanding the implications. And without being given an easy method to ‘unsubscribe’ to the service. It is obvious from Facebook’s choice of implementation for the Facebook Places service – that Facebook does not really want users to ‘opt-out’.

Be An Educated Social Media Consumer: Know How to Opt-Out of Facebook Places, if that is your choice. Also, Facebook Places FAQs Page.

In the past few months, Facebook has sought to compete with Twitter by automatically opting-in all users in their Instant Personalization App ( “Lets you see relevant information about your friends the moment you arrive on select partner websites”) that has the unfortunate side-effect of also freely making available all user Status Updates for Google Search on the internet. To avoid having all your Facebook Status Updates shared throughout the internet, you have to Opt Out** of this Facebook feature. ( ‘Count Me Out!’ as a marketing gimmick?)

And Facebook did not make opting-out of Instant Personalization an easy or self-evident procedure (see Facebook Firestorm May 2010 – Facebook Privacy).

Now Facebook has launched Facebook Places. As with their Instant Personalization App, all users were automatically Opted-In. This means that if you use a Smart Phone to post Status Updates to your Facebook account – your exact location will be pinpointed via your phone GPS and broadcast to the internet. Unless, you Opt Out of this service.

So consumers and Facebook Users: What do you think? Is Geosocial Media Service auto-opt-in the greatest thing since sliced bread? Or is it a little too close to “Big Brother Is Watching You!” for comfort?*from George Orwell’s much-quoted book: 1984, Wikipedia entry. Other works include political satire Animal Farm.
Nineteen Eighty-Four is a dystopian [pessimistic view] novel by the English writer George Orwell, published in 1949. The story, which focuses on the life of Winston Smith, was Orwell’s vision of a totalitarian state which has absolute control over every action and thought of its people through propaganda, secrecy, constant surveillance, and harsh punishment. In some editions it is retitled 1984.

** From Newsweek Article: Facebook: Friend, Foe, or Frenemy?
“But the real problem isn’t the complexity of Facebook’s privacy controls. The problem is the privacy policy itself. Of course Zuckerberg (Facebook CEO) knows this. He’s many things, but stupid isn’t one of them. The real point of his essay, in fact, was that Facebook has no intention of rolling back the stuff that people are really upset about.

The company did revise its privacy policy this week, and some privacy experts were appeased, while others said Facebook still has more work to do. For one thing, if you want to keep Facebook from sharing your info with Facebook apps and connected Web sites, you have to opt out — meaning, the default setting is you’re sharing. From my perspective a better policy would just to have everything set to private, by default.

But at this point the details of the policy aren’t even the real issue. The real issue is one of perception, which is that sure, Facebook made some changes, but only because they had no choice. The perception is that Facebook got caught doing something wrong, and sheepishly backed down. That is the narrative that will be attached to this latest episode, and it’s not a good one for Facebook.”

Internet Marketing including SEO and SEM (or Search Engine Marketing), Social Media Marketing, Internet Marketing and More - are the wave of the future. And the future is here now!

Although it’s just one more task added to a seemingly endless task list for Small Business – all Small Businesses need to educate themselves on the differences and advantages of Website Ownership, SEO, SEM, Social Media Marketing and Internet Marketing; including Paid Internet Ads.

Know the difference between having your own Internet Presence that you control (your own website) vs. paying multiple service companies and internet directories big bucks each month to create an Internet Presence for you.

But only, of course, as long as you keep paying those big bucks for all the separate internet ads and Top Box Listings on their websites each month.

Fort Worth Wordpress & Training|SEO|Social Media Marketing - My Pandamonium Marketing-SEO - Creating LARGE Internet Presence for Business in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area and Virtually Anywhere

What ‘Xyz Company Evaluator’ is actually selling:
Recommended Merchant Ad that pops up during a Category Search only on that one Directory website.

This is not the same as owning your own company website! You get one page (at best) on an internet directory site.

You will not an entire website with a domain name that you own. [NOTE: All businesses get the same listing FREE on the vast majority of internet directory sites].

Having a Recommended Merchant Ad may be valuable to you – but it is not the same as having your own website. As a consumer, you need to know the difference. Caveat Emptor. Then you can make an informed choice regarding what gives the best ROI (return on investment) for your company. Small businesses usually do not have deep pockets for buying unlimited advertising. In fact, FREE is usually best!

1. Each internet Free Directory listing that you list with – also has a Paid Advertising division. Once you create a free listing, the Paid Ads Dept will be calling you:)
2. Xxx.com called a My Pandamonium™ client last week and offered him a Recommended Merchant Ad on xxx.com. The rate? ‘Only’ $800/month. And he was reassured by the high pressure salesperson that it’s a deal; since many companies pay up to $3000/mo for a similar listing!
3. Xxx.com is only one of literally hundreds of online directory sites offering free listings and paid Recommended Merchant ads. They all solicit to small business owners for paid ads. Some of these solicitors are high pressure and do not follow Best Practices regarding truth in advertising.
4. A Sample Regular Member Listing from the BBB website: Blue Ribbon AC, The Colony, TX. All BBB members have a listing just like this at no extra charge.

Key Point To Remember:

All ‘Recommended Merchant’ Ad solutions on directory sites have one main premise:
They all assume that someone is searching on their website for your business category.

In a Google Search, free online directory listings have the same Search ‘weight’ as a Premium listing on any directory site.

Also, it’s unclear how much SEO is received from paying big bucks for a Premium Recommended Merchant Ad.
Recent research indicates that paid ads on search engines and directory sites are rapidly losing effectiveness.

The Lower-Cost Alternative: Create ‘Organic’ Search Ranking using your own website as a marketing and communications hub.

Is it SEO or an SEO Scam?

Recently, many My Pandamonium™ clients and and a surprisingly number of small businesses in all industries are receiving marketing calls and emails for SEO and/or Internet Marketing Services.

These SEO Marketing calls and emails are Guaranteeing (?) Top Placement in all Google Searches. In one case with which I am familiar (because I took the call!) for the small sum of ‘only’ $100 per month, with $150 needed to start the service.

That’s $1200 PER YEAR! And what does the consumer get for the $100 per month? Five (yes – 5!) keywords. And this company (one of many currently telemarketing and email marketing, mostly the West Coast) absolutely guarantees a #1 Google Search placement by only adding 5 keywords to your site.

There are many companies now jumping on the SEO Marketing bandwagon.

Best Advice: BUYER BEWARE.

SEO And Internet Marketing Facts

NO ONE can ‘guarantee’ top placement in Google (or other Search Engine) Searches. Google does not sell placements and their formula (algorithm) for calculating Search Placements is a closely guarded secret. Google changes their algorithm every quarter to prevent ‘gaming’ and misuse of their Search Ranking system.

One increasingly common untruth about the Google Search Algorithm is being made by companies that claim they can ‘beat’ the Google system and/or Guarantee Top Search placement. This is simply – not true. There are no shortcuts or guarantees for Google and other Search Engine results – but there are SEO Best Practices.

I have been developing SEO websites for years, using SEO Best Practices and educating small business owners about SEO Best Practices. And until recently, most clients did not know what ‘SEO’ means. My Pandamonium™still offers the same complete SEO Web Design services at very reasonable pricing – highly affordable for small business.

From Google’s Page Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

~ No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.

Beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee rankings, allege a “special relationship” with Google, or advertise a “priority submit” to Google. There is no priority submit for Google. In fact, the only way to submit a site to Google directly is through submitting a Sitemap and you can do this yourself at no cost whatsoever. [Included with a My Pandamonium™ Websites.]

~ Be wary of SEO firms and web consultants or agencies that send you email out of the blue.

Amazingly, we get these spam emails too:“Dear google.com, I visited your website and noticed that you are not listed in most of the major search engines and directories…”

~ Be careful if a company is secretive or won’t clearly explain what they intend to do.

Ask for explanations if something is unclear. If an SEO creates deceptive or misleading content on your behalf, such as doorway pages or “throwaway” domains, your site could be removed entirely from Google’s index. Ultimately, you are responsible for the actions of any companies you hire, so it’s best to be sure you know exactly how they intend to “help” you. If an SEO has FTP access to your server, they should be willing to explain all the changes they are making to your site.

SEO is a lot more than just keywords!
