Installing and Setting Up WordPress Sites
WordPress Setup for Beginners
Beginners are often confused by the technical details in the WordPress Codex.
Actually, setting up a self-hosted WordPress site is easy – once you know how.
As a beginner, the easiest way to get started with WordPress is to get web hosting optimized for WordPress; and which offers the cPanel user interface, and one button install for WordPress.
Note: If you need to install WordPress on a local machine (i.e. your own computer) for testing purposes,
see How to Install WordPress on Your Own Computer)
Step 1:
These instructions cover installing a self-hosted WordPress website in a live environment. In other words, this is the actual website: When you press ‘Publish’, the content will change on your website. For most blogs and small business, this is the easiest and most stress-free start to owning/maintaining your own website.
First, get a Hosting service truly optimized for WordPress.
Consumer Alert: More and more web hosts are offering WordPress hosting. Many are now advertising ‘Hosting Optimized for WordPress’. However in most cases, this simply means they offer Linux hosting. Without hosting actually optimized for WordPress with the latest Apache and PHP software on the servers as well as other settings – WordPress will not run correctly. Be warned

Step 2:
Log into your web hosting. If the web hosting has the cPanel user interface, even internet newbies can easily find the WordPress Installation button.
Use the one button WordPress install on Hostmonster or your web hosting to install WordPress on your domain.
Best Practice: Not all website hosting is created equal! If your web host does not offer one button WordPress install and the cPanel user interface – find another web host! Some of the most heavily advertised web hosts do not provide cPanel for their users.
Step 3:
Your WordPress website login details will be displayed after your WordPress install completes. Most web hosts also email the login info to the registered owner of the web hosting.
Now that your WordPress website has been installed, log into your WordPress site and perform basic tasks.
1. Set Website Name and Description; update time zone.
2. Set Permalink Structure.
3. Delete all ‘Hello Word’ default installs: Post, Page and Comment.
4. Install basic plugins (contact form, site backup, Google Analytics).
